21 Icons is a visual celebration of human achievement by men and women who have profoundly influenced our nation and in many instances the world. Nikon in South Africa is proud to be associated with this project which aims to present an intimate, compassionate and positive view of humanity in South Africa. Adrian Steirn, world renowned photographer and Nikon ambassador, identified twenty one iconic individuals who have contributed to the change and growth of our country and its people through their beliefs, ideals and perspectives.
Adrian Steirn captured the project through still photography and video, using only Nikon professional photographic equipment. At the heart of this project lies the message of making a difference in society by giving and not just taking, therefore becoming Icons of the future.
Nikon is the world leader in digital imaging, precision optics and photo imaging technology and is globally recognised for setting new standards in product design and performance for its award-winning consumer and professional photographic equipment.
Adrian Steirn has made a concerted effort to protect wildlife and help disadvantage communities across the world. Steirn is celebrated for his unique ability to present the true narrative of his subjects with contrasting texture and definitive compositions. His images are stories that weave into the mind of the viewer and remain as vivid as the composition itself.
“Nikon in South Africa proudly supports the 21 Icons project through our state of the art photographic equipment. The philosophy of Nikon is all about imaging, capturing history and important moments; and by supporting a project like this we aspire to motivate the youth of South Africa to take pride in their past and build a sustainable tomorrow.”
